Rather than delivering traditional, one-off PD, we invested in growing facilitators who could cultivate transferable, participant and equity-centered leadership practices across the system.
In this session, representatives from the Office of Professional Learning within the School District of Philadelphia will tell the story of the evolution of School Leader Equity Pathways PD through the intentional development of our Equity Facilitators, composed of a group of committed, equity-centered school and central office leaders. Our Equity PD Pathways represent an innovative approach to adult professional learning centering deeper learning practices, and is guided by adrienne maree brown’s (amb) book, Holding Change. The book’s mantra that “small is all” motivated a shift to enhance participants’ learning experiences by developing 60+ equity PD facilitators to impart deep and transferable learning. The “small is all” approach is a model for leaders to take back to their schools, reverberating the benefits to their own teachers and students. Moreover, this model of facilitator development and professional learning, also informed by the National SEED Project, counters more traditional PD commonly experienced by teachers and leaders.
http://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-culver-9289706
All School Levels
Outcomes –
Participants can expect to experience and/or take back to their schools/organizations:
Support and practices to develop and sustain systemwide equity-centered leadership
Understand the explicit connection revealing facilitator development as a transformational approach to leadership development
Experience strategies to elevate and innovate professional learning including high leverage engagement strategies and deeper learning
This will be accomplished through:
1.
