The Compass & The Canvas: ReHumanizing Innovation
Innovation has long been shorthand for technology. In most recent years, it has become synonymous with artificial intelligence. Why have these associations taken root? To what extent do these understandings align with the textbook definitions of innovation? How might we foster innovative thinking in our schools and leverage that energy for authentic growth and changemaking These are just a few of the questions we hope to discuss in a highly interactive experience.
Conversational Practice
Participants will start this conversation by participating in a brief design challenging, creating learning spaces mashed-up from other spaces. These rapid-fire prototypes will lead into conversations about innovation and change making in a "learner congress" model — a representative from each smaller design group attending a discussion in the middle .. the rest listening before the representative returns to the group to guide the discussion among their team before redesinging their spaces based on the conversation in the room. The ultimate goal: to design spaces in our schools and communities that support human-centered empathy-fueled problem solving.
